Surrey is the second-largest city in British Columbia and one of its fastest-growing. It is less one downtown than six communities — City Centre (Whalley), Guildford, Fleetwood, Newton, Cloverdale and South Surrey — each with its own mix of businesses. Industrial parks such as Campbell Heights hold distribution, manufacturing and trades, while farmland in the Agricultural Land Reserve still covers a large share of the city.
A lot of Surrey’s economy is built by family businesses and first-generation entrepreneurs, and the city is linguistically diverse, with Punjabi widely spoken alongside English. For technology projects that is practical, not decorative: customer-facing assistants, forms and websites often need to work for people who would rather ask a question in their first language.
The work that pays off here is usually unglamorous. Missed calls while the owner is on a job site. Quotes typed up late at night. Dispatch done from a group chat. Invoices re-entered into accounting software. Those are the problems we look for first, because fixing them frees time immediately.
